 Baby rat need help!

Today, my sister brought home a one day old rat. She told me to care for it. At the moment I have the rat under a reptile lap in a round dish with blankets and a teddy bear. Were using a warm wet Q-tip to clean him, and are feeding him with a eye dropper and warm milk. What more can we do?

 Baby rat need help!

why on earth did she bring home that poor baby?

what kind of milk?

they cannot have cows milk

make sure he doesnt get too hot

you will also want to massage his tummy as they can have trouble going potty on their own
if he makes it you will want to get another rat as a friend

they are very social animals

hopefully someone with more experience doing this can help

here is a great site that has alot of info on raising an orphaned rat Link

He was drinking organic soy milk, and yes we did do that stomache and bathroom thing. As for why she brought him home, I have no idea. And sadly he passed away last night :`(

I’ve read in several sources to give orphaned rats kitten formula only. Its the closest thing to their mother’s milk. I read too much lol. Sorry about your loss. It is very hard to foster any baby animal. Especially rats. I hand raised newborn kittens, and it wasn’t very difficult compared to other animals. Well waking up every two hours of every single day was, but they all lived. For future reference its good to know that you have to feed any small animal baby milk every couple of hours or less. Even in the middle of the night or they starve to death. I bet the baby is in a better place now.

OMG you will have to get up and feed that baby every 3 hours even through the night if you want is to live. get goats milk, warm it, not too hot, use an eye dropper, warm the baby in your hands, put the dropper next to its mouth and feed it. i had to do this with mice for 3 weeks and i was so tierd i fell asleep during school! but it is totally worth it cause that baby will love you so much you guys will be inseperable. as it gets older you can start to feed it every 4, then 5 then 3 times a day.(and not the night) good luck!!!!
