 Introducing rats?

whats the best way to introduce new rats? i currently have one young female and am getting a 5 week old female.

you should quarenteen the new rat for at least 30 days in a seperate room from your current rat

then you can try setting their cages up next to each other for a week or so to get used to each other

then you can try introducing them in neutral territory for a few play sessions and if they seem to get along try housing them together after a thourough cage cleaning of the permanent home

this is the way i reccomend doing it but it depends on the individual rats personalty as to how well they will get along

but quarenteen first

ps i know i spelled quarenteen wrong but cannot for the life of me remember how to spell it lol

thank you! i just got my new rat! shes a hooded dumbo rex. I have them in separate cages but its impossible for me to have them in separate rooms because there are cats in the other rooms. will it still work out?
ps- its quarantine :)

well it doesnt help if the new rat has a disease that could be passed through the air to your current rat
but since you have already mixed them i guess just hope for the best

most likly they will be fine

i would still wait at least a month then before introducing them and keep them as far away from each other as possible just in case the new one is sick

then start utting their cages next to each other

good luck with the intro when it finally comes and be sure to post pics when they get all settled in together
