 Very Nervous Rat.. Help :(

Hi i am new to the fourm and i kinda wanted to colab my intro and my problem in the same thread.. so ill introduce my self.. :)
My name is Alex and i am 13 years old and i love animals i have 2 dogs 1 cat 2 snakes 2 lizards and 2 pet rats.. i just cant get enough of my pets.. i love em ;) ..

Know for my problem
I recently bought 2 pet rats 1st rat the a fancy rat named Cerrio(because of the color fur) and the second is a
dumbo rat named Lucy.. and they share a cage and they love each other (they are both female).. but here is the problem.. my fancy rat (cherrio) is a nervous wreck.. when ever i try to hold her.. she trys to run away and she poops and i have tryed many many techniques like bribing her with food to come in my lap and get to know me but she wont venture far from her cage when i leave her alone she will explore but not very far.. so.. what i am trying to get out from all of this is. Is there any any tips to make my little cherrio like me or even let me hold her..
Thanks for reading any help appreciated...

-Alex

 Very Nervous Rat.. Help :(

welcome to the forum! i also have 2 rats (and lizards, cats, &fish). when i got my first rat (daisy) she would hide in her box and only come out to grab food and bring it back to her box. she would hide in the box whenever i opened the cage door so what i did was take the box out ( but put in back in when i was done) i started by offering a treat with my hand. she would take it and try to hide behind something to eat-it was like she didnt want me to see her eat. so i put peanut butter on a spoon( she loves peanut butter!). she cant pick up the peanut butter and run away, she had to stay to get it off the spoon. once she realized that my hand meant good things i picked her up. ive had her for about 3 weeks and now when she sees me she runs to the door and climbs up the bars. she loves to just sit on my shoulder :) i got a new rat last week and started the process again- within 2 days she let me hold her! hope this helps...
