 A Few Questions About Rabbits

I know all the basic stuff, but I need some advice.

I just got this rabbit today. I wasn’t planning to get a rabbit today. But the feed store called us(they know us pretty well) and said they had this rabbit someone dropped off and they wanted to give her to us. Someone litter trained her and leash trained her, so she’s very social, and they didn’t want to keep her the same way they keep their other rabbits since she’s not used to it.

So I went and got her. her coat color is like that of a dilute tortoishell cat’s coat. I think she’s just a rabbit. I don’t know what breed she is, but she looks like your everday rabbit.

So I brought her home, and brought her inside. In the car, she was really friendly and curious and loves attention. I put her in my room, set down a litter tray, a bowl of hay, some veggies, a water bowl, and a box with a towel in it. So far she’s eating and drinking and appears to be healthy. She’s really stressed out, though, because she’s been hiding under the bed and if I come in the room when she’s out, she darts under the bed again. Also, since the feed store had her for about two weeks, she only half remembers her litter box. Most of her business is in the litter box, but I’ve already vaccumes two piles of poop and two spots of pee.

I’m also sleeping in my reptile room tonight since I don’t want to stress her out anymore than I have to.

So now for my questions:
How best do I refresh her memory with the litter box?(I put some veggies in a bowl in her litter box so she’s more motivated to stay in it for longer)

What breed is she?

What color is she?

Is there anything I should be doing for her that I’m not?

 A Few Questions About Rabbits

i wouldnt put food in her litter box
most animals try to avoid going potty where they eat

did the family let her free roam a room? she might not be used to that much space so she doesnt get back to the litter box especially since she is scarred sometimes and doesnt want to head over to the litter maybe try putting one on each side of the room

i would stay in the room if she sees you in there and sees you are not going to hurt her she will do better i think

also before you enter the room knock on the door so she knows you are coming first that way you arent just barging in there and startling her

as for the breed i dont know anyway you can post pics?

if she looks like a dilute tortie then that is her color(rabbits can be torties too) it might not be called dilute though i think it is lilac or something i cannot remember lol

good luck with her

 A Few Questions About Rabbits

Yeah, I took the food out of her litter box and there’s only been one accident today.

I don’t know if they let her roam, but it sounds like it since she’s litter box trained. The feed store didn’t get very much information on her. Just that she’s litter box and leash trained. Not even a name.

She was better this morning. I went in to check on her and she came out from under the bed and said hello and let me pet her. Actually, the second time I went in, I was looking for something and kind of ignoring her running around my feet and when I knelt down she bit me to get my attention. haha.

I don’t have a camera I’m allowed to use. But she looks very, very similar(same color and breed, I’m sure of it) to this rabbit Link

I’ll have to search around and see what her color is called. I didn’t even know rabbits could be dilute tortie until her.I’ve only owned black and white(dalmation-like spots), black, and agouti.

I gave her some fresh hay this morning. Should I use alfalfa or grass hay? Alfalfa makes my goats fat. Will it make her fat, too? And I gave her some of an apple and some lettuce(She LOVES lettuce).

 A Few Questions About Rabbits

give her mostly a grass hay
alfalfa is too high in protein to be fed as a staple hay

also lettuce isnt very good for her(its mostly water)
give her dark leafy greens like collard, mustard, turnup, dandilion etc

good luck with her and i am glad she seems to be comeing around lol she probably just needs a few days to adjust

good luck
