Adult ball python -- free to a good home

I’m looking to find a good home for my 16 year old ball python, Jake. He’s healthy, has a voracious appetite, and is very docile. I got him when I was a kid, but in recent years I’ve noticed I spend less and less time with him. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, I’m not giving the amount of attention to him that he deserves. I feel very bad about this, which is why I feel it would be in his best interest if I could find him a new home that will better appreciate him.

I do not want any money for him. I just want to find him a good home. I live in Chicago, so it would be ideal if I could find someone in the area. If I cannot, then I would look into shipping him (at the adopter’s expense). I recently cracked his tank while cleaning it, so he will need a new enclosure.

If you’re interested, please let me know why you would be a good home for him. The whole reason I’m offering him for adoption is so that he will receive more attention and better care, so please let me know of your experience and ability to care/provide for him. P.S. I refer to Jake as a he...but to be honest, I’ve never actually checked to confirm whether or not he’s a male.

Steve -- Would it be possible to have Jake probed? There are quite a few ball python breeders in Chicago that could do it for you. I’m in Madison, Wisconsin, just a couple hours north of you.

Hi I am looking for an adult ball python. I have one young female and was looking for another ball python. I have two tanks one 20 gal and a 40 gal with hideaways, heat pads, and gauges. i am from oklahoma.I am also going to school to become a vet at oklahoma state.

Thanks for your replies. I guess it would be possible to have him (or her) probed, but it’s not something I’m really interested in doing. If the potential new owner wants to do that to determine the sex, it would be their choice.

Stormey 1 Duncan, as I mentioned, I would prefer to give him to someone in the Chicago area so I did not have to ship him. However, if I don’t find anyone in the area, I will contact you to discuss this further.

Epekbrick, my ball python is about 3.5 to 4 foot long. I’m trying to find him a good home, so please let me know more about yourself including your experience with snakes and what set up you would have to take care of him.

PinkLady, it sounds like you’d only be interested if Jake is female? If that’s the case, I can understand not wanting to drive 3 hours to check. I can tell from this message board though that you have a strong knowledge of ball pythons and obviously know how to take care of them, so I’d feel comfortable giving him (or her) to you. If you were interested in taking Jake, either way of his sex, I might be willing to meet halfway in Rockford. I also travel frequently for work, occasionally in the Madison area, so there’s a chance I could drop him off during a future trip.

Steve, I love all ball pythons just the same, but I am a breeder and I currently have as many normal males as I’ll ever need as pets (my original striped male and a big abandoned male that is now my daughter’s snake). The remaining rack space I have left needs to be dedicated to breeder females or morph males/females. That’s why I was curious if he was indeed a male or if he was a female.

I will be down there on October 13th for the big reptile show in Tinley Park.

I live about 20 mins from Pink Lady.
I have one young and small BP named Lola. A large male King snake that was unwanted from a fellow in CT, as well as a smaller male BP. I have purchased a hatchling from her not too long ago.
I have a very nice 40+ gallon reptile tank sitting in my garage waiting for Lola to big enough for it in a few years. I have debated going to Pink lady and adopting one of a pair or males she has.
I have years of experience keeping a wide variety of snakes, from burrowing pythons to rattle snakes.
I have no children, two very nice well behaved non barking dogs, non smoking home.
I feed f/t mice and rats. I keep tarantulas as well and a skink no one seems to like but me.
If you would like to PM me, I can give you my number AND two references of folks on here whom I gave two smaller male snakes to. One in lower Illinois the other in Indiana.

Carol, thanks for the message and your interest. You certainly sound like you have significant experience with reptiles. I would be interested in discussing this further with you. I’m not sure how we’re supposed to do that with this forum though? We’re not supposed to post email addresses or phone numbers...so that makes it kind of tough.

I still have my ball python available for adoption. I didnâ€™t hear back from the person previously expressing interest last fall. Now with all the travel I have planned for 2008, I think itâ€™s best for me to try again to find Jake a good home. I would prefer someone in the Chicago area but failing that, I am open to shipping him (or her...whatever the sex is). Ive had about 10 years exp with BPs. I helped my brother with his 2 and when i was 16 i got a job on a farm and got my first one.I work from home so ill always be there to make sure he is ok and ill give him all kinds of love and attention.I have alot of exp with other animals too.I have a ball python, 2 ferrets,2 lovebirds,and fish.
