 BUFFALO, NY--WANT SNAKE--HELP PLEASE

To whom it may concern,

I have yet to delve into the world of reptile care, yet I know a great deal of it. I love Hognose snakes, and most colubrids, but really love all snakes! I just want a simple snake, a nice Corn (tri/blizzard/whatever), Garder (Black/Green), or my favorite would be the Southern or Western Hog...but like I said, a nice snake--probablly a corn. I was hoping to get someone from the area who was willing to sell cage, supplies, and pet for a nice sum of money. The reason I don’t go to a store is just that I don’t really like how most pets are treated in most stores---I’ve worked their and saw sad things---, so if anyone lives in the Buffalo,NY area and meets this descrption, please write me. .

Pet stores will not have proper thermostats -- you would need to buy one from www.beanfarm.com or www.lllreptile.com. WalMart will not have a large enough tank, try looking for a 20-long at PetSmart or PetCo.

As for the snake, try looking around on Craigslist for someone that is getting rid of theirs. I know a few people in Buffalo that may be able to help you out. They’re on my forum, I’ll tell them to come look over here.

walmart sells up to 20 galleon tanks which is large enough for a ball python for at least a year but probably 2. you can buy good thermostats in the hardware section of walmart as well as digital thermoters. walmart does not sell heating equipment but thts about it.

If your 2-year-old ball python is still small enough to live in a 20-gallon tank, then something is wrong...

Walmart only sells 20g, not 20-long tanks. They require the length to provide a proper heat gradient -- height means nothing.

The "thermostats" at WalMart are rheostats, and all they do is adjust the amount of power going to the heat source and then stay where they are set. They don’t continue to alter it to maintain a set temperature like a proper reptile thermostat.

I live in Buffalo, NY. I got my Western Hognose from Crozoo in Tonowanda. They are a rescue/ pet store. John Croccito Jr. knows his stuff and if they don’t have it they can probably get it for you. Here is their website: http://www.crozoo.com/. I get most of my supplies from Markheim’s since they are pretty cheap. They are on Sheridan. Here is their website: http://www.wnybiz.com/markheim/. Good luck.
