Iam new to spiders and i have Questions!! You need a undertank heater to cover one half of the tank a shallow water dish.No lighting or heat rocks.you probably want to start out with a chilean rose, curly hair,or mexican red knee.for substrate it depends what tarantula you get.if you get a chilean rose like i have you can use peat moss or potting soil with vermiculite and no chemicals.

Iam new to spiders and i have Questions!! i agree with zombie on the choice of tarantula, i have a rosehair and am in the process of getting a mexican flame knee. you dont really need the heat though, i have never put heat on mine and they come out just fine. my old female was around thirteen when she passed, so.... they do like hidey rocks also, mine web them up good. and do remember that humidity is a good thing, it helps with their molts. also they are arachnids, not reptiles, and they are all cool. i have four snakes, two spiders, a scorpion, and many other fuzzy things. i would say a rosey is a good starter for you, they are good spiders, i have had two now. enjoy!

Iam new to spiders and i have Questions!! Size of the terrarium doesn’t really matter 10gallon is fine. I use clear desert sand as bedding for my rose hair and place a wide shallow water dish (only for adults) in the terrarium and a light right above it for humidity when it is molting spray the cage to increase humidity. and a piece of driftwood or rock is good for hiding
