 What is this cool lookin spider?

i found this spider by a pond and it looked cool so i took a pic of it.
what kind is it?

It’s commonly called here in the south where I live a "banana spider". They are harmless and can get really big. There webs are cool looking too. I keep them around my house since they eat mosquitoes and other insects.

Yeah they’re really common in the south, they’re everywhere in NC. We call them writing spiders or garden spiders though, I’ve never heard of them called bananna spiders.

I believe its the genus Argiope though I cannot tell the species offhand without seeing the dorsum of the abdomen. I might guess A.trifasciata The Banded Argiope but it could be also the Black and Yellow Argiope, A. aurantia...
