Heatseeker please respond asap My Smithi just molted last night. I came out of the bedroom to find her looking like she was in a death pose.(legs curled up under her) I didnt realise she molted. I shined a light into the encloser and she took off into her hide. I noticed she had a bit of something still attached to her abdomen. It looks like a long piece of skin. I cant get a pic because i dont want to disturb her/him. I am worried though. Should i leave her alone and hope for the best or try to remove whatever is still attached. She is not acting like she is ready to die at all. I just hope my startling her has not caused any adverse affects. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am worried. I say she, but i really dont know what gender i have. She is only about an inch or two. Please respond asap. Thank you.

Heatseeker please respond asap by the sounds of it, your spider looked like it was moulting right way up and not on its back. if it reacted straight away and ran it most certainly must have finished the moult. im affraid i cant help as i never had this problem before. but keep the heat mat on and makesure the spider has water in its water dish.

Heatseeker please respond asap Thank you for your reply. I took a chance to check her out and noticed that the piece that is left, is not covering her book lungs so i think she is safe. I am keeping things warm and misting the encloser. I chose to leave her alone and just observe. I dont want to harm her by causing stress. I found the molt and it all looks intact. I am a newbie so i really dont know what to look for. I think things will be okay, i just dont want to lose her. She/he is a beautie. I will post pics as soon as i can get a good camera. Thanks again.

Heatseeker please respond asap In August my Chili Rose moulted and had problems, the shed skin was still attached to her abdomen and it was specifically messy around the spinarets. The advice I was given was to raise the humidity and try to put tepid water onto the area where the shed skin still remains, being careful not to drown it. Conveniently she climbed a little up the glass and I gradually added water with a pipette. This encouraged all the skin around the spinarets to come away leaving only a layer stuck to her abdomen. Its still there now and doesnt seem to cause any probs. Once it moults the extra piece of skin will be shed with the rest. It seems this happens occassionally so don’t worry too much.

Heatseeker please respond asap Here is a pic of my Smithi. It is blurry but i had to use my crappy camera. I just got a new one today, but have to wait for the batteries to charge. I cant believe how quick she/he has changed since molting. I changed to ecco-earth to help bump the humidity a bit to hopefully create better conditions for the next molt. The peat i had in there was starting to seem dusty. I hope all is under control now. (she was in that small critter keeper just so i could change the substrate.)
