 8 Swifts in one tank?

Hi All,

I caught 8 Blue Belly lizards the other day and put them in a 20 gallon tank. They are all buried in the sand (Cali-Sand) and dont come out.

So, Im thinking 8 may be too many for one tank. I plan to get a bigger 55 gallon tank for them but Im wondering how many would actually be able to live in there together with no problems.

Anyone have any experience with how many lizards can succesfully live together in a 55 gallon tank?

I wouldn’t keep 8. Males are very territorial and unless you had a big custom cage, they might fight. It depends on how big they are. I would suggest letting a few go and using the 55 gal. I have 5 baby/juveniles in a 21 gal.

Generally the rule of thumb is one male to about four females...... I wouldn’t put more than on male in a tank, even a 55 gallon tank, just cause someone will probably get hurt. But you could have two colonies and divide them among the two tanks. Do you know the gender of all eight?

Back when I bred, I kept 1male with 3females in a 20gal, I think I’m going to start breeding again, the population has gone down and something must be done!
