I need help on the Largest Bullfrog Tadpole

I would like to know what is the longest Bullfrog Tadpole ever recorded in the state of North Carolina?

Also, in any other state, that this type of Bullfrog Tadpole could be a State or National Record !

Is there a certain name for the BULL FROG TADPOLE that I have, please let me kmow????

The reason I ask is because: Local news paper wants to do a story on Oscar

I have googled and have not found anything over 8" long

ki650-I am very impressed with your tadpole. Check out this site: http:// findarticles. com/p/articles/mi_qa4067/is_200610/ai_n17195953/pg_2 ( no spaces), I think it says that the largest tadpole recorded in United States was 177 mm which is almost 7 inches. I would check with Ripleys Believe It or Not (google them) and see if they can tell you.

Oh-I am pretty sure that the scientific name is: rana catesbeiana for american bullfrog (http://www. centralpets. com/animals/reptiles/frogs/frg2499.html - no spaces). Also check out this site, says tadpoles can reach up to 3 inches: http://www .fs.fed.us/r4/amphibians/bullfrog. htm (no spaces). We might have to check your tadpole for steroids . Just kidding. This site says they can get up 15 cm long (which is almost 6 inches): http://www. env.gov.bc.ca/wld/frogwatch/whoswho/factshts/bullfrog. htm (no spaces). Keep us posted-very exciting for you!

im pretty sure ur wrong

its lithobates catesbeiana

and yes, i but oscar is a world record bullfrog tad

but, as long as in captivity, u wont have a goliath frog (they dont grow as big)

Both names are correct : lithobates catesbeiana and rana catesbeiana

I call him Oscarsaurus !

Thanks for the info. I spoke with Rutgers University today. They said he will keep getting bigger because he’s in captivity.

I was going to turn him loose when he gets legs. SHOULD I keep him?

unless u have a big @$$ tank (like a 100 gal) u should let "HER" go, i doubt in every way thats a male

I woud release her somewhere she can be seen (with great food supply)

ki650-as far as oxygen in the tank: they get their oxygen from the water, oxygen gets in the water by a couple of ways: plants in the water give off oxygen and absorbe the carbon dioxide, when the water is trouble (like ripples, etc) oxygen is introduced, or you can put a filter and/or airstone that will introduce oxygen. If the water just stands there and does not get moved then it could become stagnant which means it would have little to no oxygen in it. As far as releasing him/her, I personally would not due to the fact that you have had it in captivity for a while and you could possibly introduce foreign bacteria, etc into the native species. If you have the means and space to take care of him/her then by all means keep him/her. Did you contact Ripley’s yet? They also may be able to point you in the right direction as far as a museum, etc that may want him/her, a place that will give him/her as much love as you do-that’s another option if you do not have the means to take care of him/her as an adult. Hopefully this helped you out a little bit. I still love looking at Oscar-he/her is fabulous!

Haven’t contacted Ripley’s yet.

I will have to get you a photo of Oscar 8x10 (with him smiling) he is cute

I may have to let someone raise him after he gets legs. Would you keep Oscar in your bedroom at night? He will sing to you all night! (smile)

He’s growing about 1/4" every month. He may get to 10-12 inches long. That would be a MONSTER!

u could keep a leopard frog, (in a 20gal)

Im sorry about the way that I have talked to you.

After Oscar gets legs and changes into a frog, and I have to turn him loose.

Not sure, if I want another frog,tadpole...I could be wrong.

It may be another year or so before he changes, but Im thinking of when it does happen. its going to be SAD for me.

Like I said in other post, I have never had a goldfish.

When I caught Oscar, I was catching fish with a net from a dried up lake at the Golf Course....during the Drought......Oscar got caught in the net. I did not know what he was!.... never seen anything like that before.

If he had not got caught up in the net he would have died. ( Lake dried up )

Ever since then, he has been special to me. ( odd .. larger than normal....and cute ..)

So , I guess you see why I bragg on Oscar.... I have never raised any goldfish,frog or anything like that.

Like I said: Its going to be a sad day when I turn him loose.........
