Multiple types of Tads at one time?

I rescued a whole bunch of tadpoles from the ’kiddie’ pool that we set our for our dogs. I have placed them in a 20 gal aquarium, which I’m sure isn’t big enough for all of them - but that’s all I got for the moment. It does have an air filter that is netted off so they can’t get sucked up into the filter and get stuck.

They started out around the same size, although a few were a lighter shade of brown instead of dark. Now we have two distinct sizes of tadpoles. The larger ones have what looks like a ball on their underside, and then there are the little ones.
Could we have different types of tadpoles? Or do they sometimes just grow differently? They were all found at the same time and moved into the tank within 2 days. I found them on Friday, July 11th, scooped them into a holding container on Saturday and had them in a clean tank with the same water that was in their pool on Sunday the 13th.

Some of the lighter brown ones are still there, and larger. But I don’t see as many. We have lost some because they dug themselves too deep into the gravel. And some are just dying - not too sure why - mostly the little ones. I feed them frozen lettuce and bottom feeder fish food and keep the filter on when I am home. There are also two aquatic plants in the tank.

All the tadpoles will nibble at the ones that turn up dead and floating. Should I take the dead ones out?

It’s awfully hard to get detailed pictures of these guys since they are still little, but any help would be appreciated!

They could be two different species, it just depends on the kinds of frogs/toads you have in the area where you live. I’m not sure what type you have, so I can’t help with an ID unfortunately.
But yes, whatever dead ones you see should be taken out. If they were sick, you don’t want them spreading disease or parasites, and it’ll help keep the water clean and clearer too. It is normal for some to die though, that’s why there are so many of them to begin with, so don’t worry too much about that. And also try to remove any uneaten food after a few hours, that’ll also help keep things healthy for them.
Hope I helped, good luck :)
