 Bullfrog tadpole questions :)

ok so my pet store got a tadpole in with the commets so iasked if i could get it with out know what it was. well im pretty sure its a bullfrog which i dont mind the noise he’ll make when hes all grown up but for now im not sure what to do. i have him in 2g i think. he has no legs and i dont think any sign of them so im guessing he’s failry young but i do have a 20 g that im waiting to do a 1/2 and 1/2 on should i do it now or wait til he’s bigger? also i think i read that in warmer water he’ll grow faster but i thought i also read they like cold water. sorry for the questions. any info is appriciated.

>> sry smudges lol

He does look like a bullfrog. He could stay in the tank he’s in for now, no need for the half/half until it has at least full back legs, though it’s good that you have it already so it’s something less to worry about later.
As for the water, room temp is fine. He’s a cutie, good luck with him :)

As long as it’s not floating around aimlessly it’s usually fine and normal.

yup, looks like another bullfrog to me too. The 55 gallon sounds like it’ll make an awesome setup for them, plenty of space. Just be careful when the larger one starts morphing, if it becomes a frog first (which is likely), it’ll eat the little guy when it gets the chance. So when it’s a froglet you’ll probably have to separate them, and even as adults they get territorial, so just be aware of that.

heh ya i figured he’ll be the first to enter the 55g as soon as he grows some legs im just not sure how to introduce them 2gether in the 55g because by the time the little guy is ready to enter the 55g the bigger one is probly gonna be big enough to eat him. if that makes sence lol. any ideas? or wont i be able to cuz that’d suck lol.

Honestly, you’ll probably end up having to keep them separate later. They’d have to be around the same size to even try introducing...but even then males especially tend to get territorial and fight, even my female likes to fight her reflection. I guess you could try and see what happens, but just make sure you have a plan B set up just in case.
Anyway you probably have at least a year before you even have to worry about that, so that’s plenty of time for saving up and planning for the various possibilities.

i actually got a little bit of a situation i gave the littler tadpole to some one wo works with me at the petstore and took one home that was abt the same size as the other guy in the hopes that they are a little closer in age. which i know with bullfrogs are hard to tell. but what do you think? i mean worse coems to worse my neibor has a pond :D

Size isn’t really a good indicator of age, mine was pretty tiny for a bullfrog when she morphed, they’re all different. But as tadpoles age/size doesn’t really matter anyway, so they should be fine, and the pond next door is always a good option to have :)
