Going tadpole fishing!! I just finished reading that tadpoles usually appear late summer and early spring. So about now is a good time. I have adopted 3 tadpoles. A co-worker fished them out of her pond last Aug or Sept. They have been in my sunroom since then in a fish tank. They only maintenance I’ve been doing is changing the water when it becomes really cloudy. I recently added a little filter in it just to keep the oxygen flowing through, as well as, keeping me from having to clean it as often. Within the past month two of three are growing legs. I am researching on how to rearrange their environment for being half tadpole and half frog. I also want to put them into my outside pond and not sure exactly when is the best time.... now or when they are fully frogs. You indicated your’s always die. I read that you cannot use chlorinated water. I’ve been using distilled water. My water temp is pretty much whatever the outside temp is. My sunroom is not heated and I do keep it by the window to get sunlight. I’ve been feeding them pellets made for frogs and lizzards. Plus I was taking pieces of plants from the outside pond and throwing them in there. I also read that they enjoy lettuce which you need to boil first. I took a handful, boiled it and then placed it in the freezer to keep. I would then break off a chunck (very small amount) and throw it in the tank. This is all a first for me so I may just have been lucky with these 3. I was worried about 1 of them, he was smaller than the rest but now he’s bigger and doing well. He doesn’t have legs growing yet like the other two... must be a late bloomer.
I hope my comments are helpful to you and I am open for suggestions, as well. Mainly on if and when I should put them into the outside pond.
Best of luck!
