Sick Tadpole Hello. I got a shipment of tadpoles from an aquatic supply business, large reputable business. I got 12 and one of them has what appears to be hairlike filaments down its tail and a white/grayish patch on its mouth. It will let me pick it up, so it is sluggish. I saw another one in the pond and it swam away fast when it even saw my shadow. I am sure it is sick but I don’t know how to treat it. Can anyone help?? The other critters in the pond are fine. I got tadpoles last year from the same place and they returned as frogs to my pond this year. How do I know? There are at least 2 frogs who you just can’t mis-identify because of scars and other body markings. Thanks!!

Sick Tadpole Sounds like fungus, definitely separate it from all the other tads and anything else you’ve got like fish, you don’t want it spreading. I’d say to go to a petstore, and see what fungal medications they have for fish, and use that in slightly smaller amounts for the tadpole. It kind of sounds like cotton mouth, which I’ve never even heard of in tadpoles, only fish... hopefully it’ll be ok.
