Is this Normal For A Baby Tegu?!
Well my baby Tegu Tigger is very very very attracted to things that move. He tries to attack all the when I fix things in his cage. He even tried to attack his cage lid once. He is good though when I handle him but if he sees something moving in the distance, he’ll jump to go investigate! Is normal for a baby Tegu?

Well i don’t think it’s not normal, but if i were you i would take him out of his cage when feeding and start feeding him out of his cage so when your cleaning the cage in the future he don’t think one of your fingers is dinner. That might help.

do you feed him live mice? if so try feeding him food that doesn’t move for a while, or frozen mice. Also a cation, DO NOT GET HIM USED TO EATING FROM YOUR HAND.! when i first got my tegu I thought it was cool to feed him out of my hand, the problem with that is soon he started to associate my hand with food. it took him a while to drop this habit, but sometimes when he’s hungry and i reach in the cage to pet him,he will follow my hand around like a piece of meat.

Is this Normal For A Baby Tegu?! I’m having the same problem with mine. So I just started taking her out if the cage to feed her . But shes really bad I cant barley more when feeding her lol she seen a tag on my jacket the was red and my jackets black she flew on and and did death roll over and over i was think thank god that wasn’t my hand. Ive always used tongs but she seems to go for anyhting that move :X
But I’m guessing my tegu has reacted this way because she is just wanting more food. So Ive up her feeding because she has lost some weight too. So maybe this is the same reason yours is reacting this way. I’m hoping by keeping her feed to what she wants and needs and doing it on a schedule she will know when feeding time is and she Will calm down knowing she doesn’t have to wry about food. Good Luck

Jamiereptiles, see now all the tegu’s i’ve owned would do the same thing all eight of them,But i my self feed my sub adult tegu’s until they don’t want no more food.As the become adults then i will feed them 3 to 4 times a week and use variety, mice, chickenpeeps, ground turkey with bone meal vitamins, calcium, fruit, boiled egg here and there and mine never are over weight,Plus take all mt reptiles to a reptile specialist once a year for check ups sometimes every year and a half and the vet always says my tegu’s a very healthy.I would get him use to eating out of a bowl or like plate out of his cage and keep working on that.As the get older they should get better with the feeding response, but they are known for a aggressive feeding. Also i would stick with frozen mice or chickenpeeps thats what i do so the don’t think they have to attack as soon as you open the cage, usally they will eventually start investigating the food more if you use a bowl and take them out of there cage to eat.Nice tegu by the way.Good luck.

Is this Normal For A Baby Tegu?! Thank you. I’ve always used frozen so far.I’lll try it out and she how much she eats and she how well it digest. I mostly feed her hoppers and gut loaded crickets w either that powder and gel stuff and sometimes ill use potato’s and other veggies. I offer a few super worms and meal worms sometimes randomly lol. I’m a bit worried about her weight she getting very thin. I’m just not use to feeding so much to her I feed her the same amount as my sav moniter which it bigger in width than her. But I try to keep telling my self that the tegu needs to eat alot and will grow fast I was just afraid to over feed her. But as I can see she must need more food. Shes around 18 inch.My savs 18 also. So I will try feeding her today as much as she wants and see how that goes. I hope she picks up weight. And Thank you
Ive been feeding her the same as my sav you can see in the pic the sav is much bigger body mass I would have thought that would be a good amout for a much smaller reptile.

Here I’ll show you my savannah i got from a friend when it was a baby,Her it is at 2 years old.Well my tegu’s would eat like pigs but that was ok as far as them being subadult let her eat until she’s seems she don’t want to eat no more, you seem to be feeding her well but i’d lean more toward the hoppers and then you could always give her crickets later in the day,but the hopper will add that weight cause she does look alittle thin. Also some times around this year tegu’s slow down cause they usally hibernate,i my self don’t hibernate my tegu’s but even though i don’t they still slow down alittle bit.Well like i said she looks pretty healthy otherwise.

Is this Normal For A Baby Tegu?! Thankyou for the help Rich77 Wow very pertty sav.
Lol, thank you jaba, I love my sav but she had a bit of an additude to her and likes to try to run away from me when she can. Iv’e never had a bearded dra.. But I hear great and seen great things about them. Yes they dont get as big as sav to and they seem to allow being held and more calm than most savs. It all depends on what your looking for in a reptile and what you can take care for. But you never know im sure some people have nice savs that dont mind being messed w lol. But as for mine she will let me hold her now but has a nasty very smart bite to her. Lol theres been a few times I had her on my finger for over 2 hrs and couldn’t get her off. But I still love her to death.
What all do you have. I just have as we know my sav my tegu iguana. and 2 red footed torts. Ya Im having a hard time w space myself right now. We use to live in a huge house and had lots of room didnt expect to be moving to to a place the same size of or living room of our old place. Lol I live in the living room of the new place and we arent even supose to have reptiles and 2 of our cats but we have reptiles taking over the place lol. Everyone always say just give them away and I have to understand they dont realize what they mean to me the think of they are just lizard but I get a bit offended lol. I could never put my reptiles in the hands of someone else that puts me in a bit of a pickle tho lol I can never do anthing with out taking them :( and you just cant always take them. Lol sry I ran on.

Also becareful once your savannah reaches adult size to cut back on the feeding cause they are prone to fatty liver disease and can kill them. That savannah there was big and i would feed him every 2 days cause he would eat everyday if i let him.Now he was a escape artist he would get out of his cage and at first I’ll like how the heck did he do that,I had these spring cage clamps and one day i caught him in the act,he would use his big head and push off his ramp to use his body as leverage and push open the spring clamp i said you smart S.O.B lol so then i fixed him and added a different clamp and that was the last time.He couldn’t go anywhere anyway i blocked all the vents,he was to big to fit in the anyway but just in Case.I’ll have to say i owned about 5 savannah monitors as the were young the were all pissy but i never gave up,i kept interacting for short periods of time and at the end he was as docile as can be.

Is this Normal For A Baby Tegu?! Lol that’s a smart sav I love to have seen that. Mines starting to show a lot o personality that I wasn’t expecting its still a bit socking to me shes a lot different now that shes in the living room w me 24/7 shes much more ill use the wrd "tame" so far lol. Shes starting to get tall enough to reach to top of the cage I’m going to put clamps on it soon lol she tried to open it. I just took my Iggy out or some sun and he hasn’t had natural light in a while and he never bite me other than breeding season and the son o a gun bit me on the hand no reason and left a mine bruise this time along w the cuts lol. I guess natural light really does have a effect on their behavior. Thank you and all the help. I been trying to keep and eye on my sav she seems to be on the edge of starting to get fat lol.

Sorry for posting late! Well I 1st wanna say nice Tegus and Savys Jamie and Rich. I too have a Savy, about the same size as yours Jamie. He is one nasty bugger! Mostly due to not interacting with him alot only for important reasons.
I have the same problem as you Jamie with space. I have this long list of Reptiles all in my bedroom! My own mom some times just wishes that I’ll get rid of them! I just tell her HELL NO!!!
0.0.1 Savannah Monitor
1.1.1 Bearded Dragons
1.0.0 Jackson Chameleons
1.0.0 Veiled Chameleons
0.0.2 Leopard Geckos
1.1.0 Ball Pythons
0.0.1 Gater Snake
0.1.0 Russian Tortoise
0.0.1 Red Ear Slider
0.0.1 Australian White Tree Frog
0.0.1 Hermit Crab
Also JABA, Bearded Dragons are GREAT!!! They don’t take up much space( 40 Gallon Breeder for Adults) and super friendly! I love mine
About my Tegu(Tigger), Im feeding him now in a seperate container. He seems a tad bit better, I hope over time he’ll change. I can’t feed F/T as of now, I get my F/T Mice and Rats from the Reptile Show and the next one isn’t till Aprill 22nd. Im gonna be sure to get him started on them though ASAP!

Heres Tigger a few weeks back, he has grown since.

And heres Rusty when he completey tor up his cage
