Smallest tegu smallest Tupinambis species available would be colombian tegus and blue tegus , blue get a lil bit larger and generally make better pets. for a colombian or a blue you’ll eventually need a cage 18 sq ft in floor space ( like 6’ x 3’ )

Smallest tegu actually you are wrong. That species is Callopistes maculatus and is not a tegu, but related to tegus in the way ameiva’s and caimen lizards are. There is very little known about Callopistes maculatus and are not easy to obtain.
There is also a ’monitor tegu’ Callopistes flavipunctatus (also not a true tegu or monitor)

Smallest tegu I knew some one was gonna list Callopistes, that’s why i said specifically "Tupinambis" as those are the true tegus, like Ms. aquaticbunnie said they are related to tegus but truly are not tegus (they are both teiids), so case in point, I am not wrong.
I will be expecting an apology and $25 donated to the ACRA (Ameivaboy’s Captive Reptile Association) : ^ P

Smallest tegu Shifty, you really gotta do some research before you jump out and say "wrong". Be sure to read carefully as ameivaboy did specifically say the genus of which are true tegus. People are too quick to try and say somebody is wrong. But to answer your question crzy, blues are pretty cool and you will like them. Though they may be a little bit more than you might want to spend, they are well worth it. Colombians are less pricey and still gorgeous animals. Though you may hear people say they have an attitude, thats just something you could run in with any animal you choose. Its good to see that you are reading up ahead of time instead of like those people who buy now ask later. Either way, if you are a dedicated keeper, both species can be just as rewarding.

Smallest tegu green ameivas are sometimes (mistakenly) called dwarf tegus that common name should be reserved only to callopistes maculatus (and even then is misleading just look at this thread) jungle runner is another common name as is emerald ameiva
