Reguarding Regurgitation Hey, my argentine red regurgitated the three rats he was fed yesterday. I just want to know if maybe the rats were sick and he could tell and regurgitated them or what other reasons could of caused it, he is acting fine. My tegu has did this about a few months ago when he was fed a pretty large medium rat so i thought it was becasue the rat was too big for him, but these three rats were small ones and he usually eats them no problem.

Reguarding Regurgitation Whats the temps like on your basking spot? Were these live or frozen/thawed mice? I would be inclined to visit the vet if this continues regardless of how he is acting.

Reguarding Regurgitation the basking spot is between 100 and 105, and the rats were live, not frozen or thawed, i buy them from the petstore weekly, and yeah, i think a vet visit is needed.

Reguarding Regurgitation I would also increase the basking spot temperature - depending on what youre using to heat it, you can either put something under the light to raise the basking platform, or put in a higher wattage bulb (be careful not to increase the overall temps of the cage too much when doing this - a midpoint temp of mid 80s and a cool end 5-10 degrees lower is a good range to aim for). Basking spot can easily be 110F or a little higher. If you dont have one already, I would buy or borrow a digital temperature gun - these give instant and very accurate readings of the basking spot surface. You might be surprised by the results it gives (I was the first time I got one!), and they dont cost ridiculous amounts of money. If the basking spot temp is too low, digestion will be affected and this could cause the throwing up.

Well like somebody already said get a temp gun and make sure the temps are right,i will also tell you this my temps are between 100f t0 105f and i’ve owned many tegus and never had one throw up.Rats can have parasites,or your tegu could depending on were you got him .If your temps are right and you have a spot were he can retreat in to a ambient temp which is in the 75f 80f then i would stop using there rats wherever you bought them and use frozen to buy the way safe and kills almost all the parasites, the best thing to do is to see a herp vet a get a fecal it doesn’t hurt.I myself take mine like one a a year to be sure even if they are healthy, now i only have two tegus and a rhino iguana so it would add up if you were a breeder but most do it there self.Well good luck. Here is the temp gun i have it works great.

Reguarding Regurgitation The tegu could either be too cold, too stressed, food/prey too large,
food/prey spoiled, systemic infection, high levels of protozoans or parasites, disturbed, obstruction in digestive tract (by torsion, swelling, foreign object, dystocia, impacted, ingesta, or fecal matter). I hope this helped good luck
