Tegu Questions I have been researching getting a tegu. I currently have a 3 year old rtb, a 6 month old bd, and a 5 year old leo. I saw a small tegu - it is a yellowish color with black spots. It is at a pet shop which knows nothing about their reptiles and I would like to know if anyone knows what type of tegu this is and maybe the temperment of that type. It is quite sad - they also have a savannah monitor about 3 feet long in a tiny cage - I would love to rescue it - but because of their aggression and being in this small cage, I am afraid that I may not be able to tame it down being that it is not a tiny baby. Thanks for your help. I’ve been looking at the care sheets and the one suggested by people on the forum. I just don’t see any of these yellow with black spotted tegus in photos and am wondering what it is and how it is around humans.

Tegu Questions Even if it’s a baby and I handle it regularly? I don’t want something that will get big and not tame down. I like to tame my critters so that they are handleable - I know they are not tame but docile and tolerant - that is important to me. So not a good idea, huh? This shop does not take real good care of their animals - that’s why I try to get them out of there if I can. Do you know anything about savannahs - this one is probably about 3 feet and crammed into a tiny tank- it doesn’t seem to do much of anything when it’s being looked at - I just don’t want an animal that is always aggressive and never handleable. Thanks for your help.

Tegu Questions Yup - I found a photo finally and although the golden in the photo has more stripes than spots, I think they are one and the same. The black and white is the least aggressive right?

If that is important to you then any teguixin (gold/colombian tegus) are not a good choice for you at all.
Argentine or red tegus would be a better bet (or even a blue) though every animal will have it’s own unique personality.

Tegu Questions I saw it tonite - and it is definately a golden and definately aggressive little thing! I’m not going to take it - but the shop has it advertised as a black and white.

Tegu Questions Also I appreciate the help - I am not one of those people that will get an animal and then down the road decide it’s too much to handle and try to get rid of it - I take owning my reptiles very seriously and when I get one it is a lifelong commitment
