Question on Tegus of all sorts.

Hey all, im usually on the bp forum but i ran across an ad the other day for a blue tegu. I’ve been wanting a big lizard for awhile so i have a few questions:

How quickly do they grow and how big?

Husbandry requirements?

Lifespan?

Diet?

I will also be doing additional research but would appreciate your input. I currently own a Blue Belly Lizard, a ball python and a lil gopher snake.

Thanks for your time

there is this button near the top of the page that says "care sheets" if you click it and look through a few of the care sheets most of your questions will be answered.

largly depends on how good you care for it, (ie) proper UV, although it is a debated topic, proper vitamin supplements, and proper diet.

The lifespan is approx 10 - 15 years so a proper enclosure is a must for a healthy tegu.

see links above.

a tegu or any other large lizard, is a big step from any of the pets you own now, so make sure you think it through, and if you do decide to get one do research until your eyes bleed from staring at books and computer screens all day!!! lol.

But seriously, I’m not trying to scare you out of owning one of these awesome creatures, but they do require a ton of care and attention.

peace and good luck!!!

oh, let us know if you have anymore questions.

Hey man, ive seen you around the ball python forum. I also keep a ball and a few tegus. These guys might give you a hard time before you get one but its for your own good. They arent as simple as pet shops make them out to be. they eat a ton and what goes in must come out huh? The cost of buying a tegu isnt much but the care for it in the longrun will be much more then the tegu itself....so yeah make sure you re ready for it before you get it.
