Please help me with my new golden Tegu

I have recently acquired a golden tegu. He is just a baby about 8inches long. I want to make sure i am doing all i can for my new baby. For now i am housing him in a 40 breeder with a ceramic dog bowl for water, climbing objects, a hiding cave, plants and of course his uvb and uva lighting. Everyone that i seem to talk to tho has been giving me different information on how to feed him. some have told me only feed him moist dog food with crushed dry food mixed in and then i’m also being told that he needs to be fed live food of all kinds. I was originally told to feed him the dog food and never live food so that he would be less aggressive as he gets older. I am used to bearded dragons and geckos but have never had a lizard that will get as big as this one, so i want to make sure that with proper handling i can ensure that i will hopefully not be bit in the future since i am diabetic and lizard bites could do quite a lot of harm at his full size. I would appreciate any helpful information that anyone could give. Thanks

Your choice of species was not very good if you want something handlable.
As far as diet goes, dog food is crap. I never use it. Maybe a treat once in a while but at best should make up less than a percent of it’s complete diet. You dont need "live" food anyways, atleast as far as mice go. They are usually more than happy to chomp down on thawed frozen mice. At the size your tegu is now most of it’s diet will be insects. Crickets, roaches, mealworms, waxworms etc. Some ground turkey with calcium and vitamins added to it along with maybe a little fruit would be good too.
I also throw in crayfish (thawed frozen), quail eggs (sparingly), Chicks etc etc etc.
