Caging help I don’t own a tegu because I still have research and planning to do. But, I have an empty 48 X 18 X 18 cage. Would I be able to start a tegu off in this, or should I start smaller? Also, how long would a cage this size last for a tegu before I would need to upgrade?

Caging help that would be good for a baby tegu. i dont understand why so many people fear about putting a wild animal in to big of an enclosure. but for how long it will last depends on the care and growth of it. how often its fed, if it hibernates, and such. i think that tank should last you maybe up to a 1 1/2 ft. tegu. after u want something bigger. and my old tegu grew over two feet in the first yr. so id say it would prob. last u a few months if that.

Caging help I agree ... it will last you for a few months, but in my opinion you should get the large enclose built ( at least 8x3x2... at a minimum) and just put the baby in there. Ive posted my cage ... which is probably one of, if not the biggest on this forum and i put my baby in there from the very beginning. If you do this, i will eliminate the unnecessary stress of moving from cage to cage.
But again ... thats just how i do it, i just seems to be common sense to do it that way
