 Tegus Refuse to Eat

I have a Columbian b/w and a red tegu. They refuse to eat like COMPLETELY refuse to eat. I leave crickettes, fruits, and monitor diet daily before I go to school and when i come back, the foods still there on the same spot. They look like they have no energy and are going to die out on me or something. So I asked my brother to take care of them while I’m off at school to see if they’d rather have their food at a different time, which still is no luck. I spent so much money on Tegu stuff just to see if that would make them happy but they still won’t do a thing. Everday after school I just go to my Tegus for hours and hours hoping for luck. I really want to do something about it because I will feel horrible if I just gave up on two pets who use to be really great and easy to take care of but know they are dying.

 Tegus Refuse to Eat

I have had the columbian for a year now, and the red tegu for almost a year. Because of them refusing they’ve stayed the same size but skinnier.

The cage setup is 90 degress with a 135basking spot, 90% humid, 2 UV’s

They’re in a vision cage 72" W x 28" D x 18" H.

Have you tried mice. My baby Colombian tegu quit eating cricks, and can not stop eating his hoppers. How big are they. Once a tegu reaches a certain size they stop eating small things like crickets, and look for the bigger prey items.

My Red Tegu is about 13 inches, he eats crickettes when he feels like it but he won’t try anything else.

Columbian is 20inches eats Monitor when he feels like it, but i can’t feed him that everyday. I tried mice but they just stare at it.

u should try and force feed it. ur tegus will get weaker as time goes on...if that doesnt work for any reason u should take them to a vet b-fore it gets worse

Definitely not, do NOT under any circumstances for food down your tegus throat ... Please if you do not know what you are talking about, do not post.

The only time it would be necessary to force feed would be when a vet give you a nutrient solution that need to be fed with a syringe.

thats weird for a tegu not to eat, especially if they wont eat mice or boiled eggs, personally i would take them to the vet

do you think they could be stressed for some reason? have they got hiding places? no dogs or cats to worry them?
