Mine is about 10 inches. and is eating hoppers, but starts yours of with fuzzies, eggs, roaches, fruit. What is that bedding you got him one. Try Mulch mixed with sand my baby and adult Colombian golden tegus loves it.

Ok, I doubt yours would even touch fruits but you can try i guess. Try boiled eggs, ground turkey, crickets, mealworms, superworms, hoppers, fuzzies, or pinkes. Umm Mike posted a really good feeders list that you should look at.

Boiled eggs, you can mush the shell into the egg for more calcium but its not really looked upon well.
I scramble my herps eggs i dont hard boil them ... just because i this its less messy lol

Also, you can feed raw eggs, i just choose not to. Due to the amount of bacteria that could be in them ... i just dont :)

Well I never put my egg in whole cuz its messy when he has to bite it and swing it everywhere. I cut it up in little chunks and leae the shell out. It just seems dangerous to feed the shell. Ohh I finally got my little guy to take some grapes and a small bit of banana today with a side of crickets hehe

Kinda old post but I wanted to ask a question...my baby arg b/w is eating the canned monitor and tegu food. Anyone else use that stuff? And what do you think of it as part of a varied diet?

Mine also gets fruit (wont touch them) greens, veggies, mice, worms, insects and ground turkey.

Umm ... at the tegu canned food, that is a big no no, at least in my opinion.
1. the additives for preservation purposes are toxic
2. the "meat" in the can are byproducts/undesirable to humans and loaded with growth horomones and other toxins
3. the fat content in them are extremely high and potentially fatal

If you are looking for a suitable canned food, i would suggest Turducken, it is an organic canned dog food with extremely low fat and as it suggests ORGANIC (no additives). It more or less looks like a beef stew.. this is the ONLY canned food supplement i would ever offer to any herp :)

And how old is your tegu? then are bored carnivorous and as they age are more accepting to fruits and veggies

Eh canned food is a bit too messy for me. Plus I dont like canned food so I wont give my tegu any lol. Seeing that tegus accept F/T foods alot better then my snakes, I think keeping frozen food stored is much better then canned food. But ofcourse this is my opinion and my tegu spoiled heh

Thanks for the info...I’m going to stop the canned tegu food. I never thought about the perservatives, or the meat they would use for it...your right.

I will look for the turducken food...I just want to mix up what he’s eating. A varied diet is always better, and that way if I can’t find a certain food one week he has other options.

Mine is only 2 months old...still a baby baby. He is eating the scrambled egg...heads for that first, then his crickets. Twice a week we are feeding him a pinkie. The other days he gets the eggs, turkey, beef, dried crickets, mealies and liver. There are a few crickets in the cage also. I have him eating a small amount of fruit and veggies now...chopped it very small in the blender and throw it in with the meat stuff. Not sure if I should push the fruit/veggie thing this young but I want to make sure he’s getting all the vitamins and stuff he needs. Never sure how healthy those mice were fed.
