 Taming the tegu....

I just wanna make sure I’m on the same page as everyone else when it comes to taming my tegu....i have a colombian B&W...hes about 10 inches and I take him out everyday and hold him and pet him and let him roam a bit and that’s about it...and he gets bowl fed crickets to wax worms and pinkies...but is there anything else I can do to tame my tegu?

This is a big fiasco and very controversial subject... i myself believe that you can calm an animal and get them used to you make them love you watever ... but just like a dog ... if you piss it off it will bite you/tail whip you no matter what, its inevitable.

But as for taming goes, you are doing what is suggested.. this is probably not the smartest thing on my part, but i tend to put my fingers around his face... lol i know that sounds funky, but when i pet his head he calms, so ill rub the sides of his mouth and even open his mouth once in a while. Just to check on those teeth lol.

Idk if others can do this with their animals? I know that i put a lot of time into them and they trust me.

But yea taming wise ... as long as you do what you are doing, and EVEN if your little guy gets fussy and pissy DO NOT! put him back in his cage ... cuz then he will think "hmm if i do this, he’ll put me away" So if he thrashes, bites watever dont put him back.

Like ive stated before what i do, is hold his body with one hand and cover his eyes with my other. And once his breathing pattern slows i slowly remove the hand covering his eyes and he is fine again...
