Just a few questions and Tegus

Hello there. Im from the Iguana forum but i recently saw a golden Tegus for $25.00 on the internet. They have about 10 of them and they are all babies. I was thinking of getting one but i would like to know some information first. Thanks.

Heres where the questions come in.
1. Food
2. Size of cage and what goes in it?
3. How big is a full sized Tegus?
4. Behavior (Friendly/Medium/Aggressive)
5. Heat/Humidity
6. Life Expectancy

Thank You

-Ron

You probably wont want any teguixin (gold and colombian tegus)

Look into argentine tegus, they get larger and are much more docile.

Just a few questions and Tegus

Lets start from the very beginning... if you are purchasing a tegu online for 20$ they are probably very malnourished or not properly cared for.
If you are purchasing a tegu online i suggest using varynardherps

Also, just as a warning Goldens are not known for being docile... if you are looking for something to hold and ’tame’ you are going to want a black and white Argentine.

If you are still interested in getting a Gold let me know, or if you think you want a more docile herp (b/w or red) let me know, i will post accordingly, answering all 6 of your questions :)

Umm why not just go look at the caresheets that have been posted? Tegutalk.com has a good caresheet, foodlist, and handling info. Also agamainternational has good stuff too. Take a look at that stuff.

Just a few questions and Tegus

Ok, are you lookin into golds or b/w? I can kinda help with b/w cuz i have done a good amount of research with them.

ok, food-see Mike’s food list hehe he posts it every few days.
Size of cage- They will get real big so a 8X4X4 would be minimal
How Big?- they can reach up to 5 feet. head to tail
Behavior- B/W are said to be very friendly but they some arent. It depends on how much you handle them.
They are KNOWN to be tame but remember all anumals are different.
Heat- I have a basking area of about 110 and a cool side of 80. I even have a spot that drops to lower 70s but they rarely go there.
Life expectancy is really up to you haha. but they can go for more then 20 years with proper care.

Umm anyone is welcome to change or correct anything i put since Im just giving info I have read.
