Substrate question dirt mix with sand is the best substance for digging. Nothing organic unless you plan on growing plants in the cage as well.

Substrate question what i can get ahold of around my rinky dink town is a top soil organic potting mix I was going to filter alot of it out. however Im at a loss as to where I can get just dirt(besides digging) good clean sand I have I even have some peat moss around. Is there a certain brand of soil that most use I may can order it? Thank you for the reply my Tegu is in a forest subrate of small pieces of bark rite now but I have read that being able to dig burrows would be better for him

Substrate question I agree with repticale on everything but the organic part ... YOU DEFFLY want to go organic, organic means there are no pesticides and bullsh*t in it ... anything else will have toxins that are harmful and possibly deadly if it gets ingested too much!
And deffly do NOT use peat moss ... very stringy and clumpy when wet (inside the body) and is NOT digestable ... which WILL cause impaction.

Substrate question Im not a fan of sand ... especially if that is the substrate that he eats on (even if he eats from a bowl).. there is always a chance of ingestion and as we all know, when wet ... sand clumps
Just keep that in mind :)

Substrate question Of course, but small amounts of sand shouldnt hurt and especially since its mixed with a much larger amount of clean soil.:)
