I got a baby tegu.......help..... The best substrate is either topsoil or orchid bark. your going to want to put a fairly large water dish in their too. the diet depends mainly on what type of tegu you get. black and whites are mainly carnivorous but will accept certain fruits and veggies. you can also feed them crickets, roaches, and rodents. also ground turkey mixed with egg is a good food source to keep your tegu fat and happy. put the shell and all in the mix because it has great calcium. red tegus eat a lot more fruits and veggies but the other foods are great in their diet too. to tame them is not a really big problem at all, especially when they are young. you will probably get some scratches or a couple bites (worst case scenario) but their awesome pets and can "tame" realatively easily. just be careful around feeding time or if you have the scent of food on your hands. you should be fine. but you should probly have done a little more research on him b4 you bought it. buy some books. good lucck. hope i helped a little.
