 Golden tegu

i will be getting a hatchling golden tegu in a week or so. the care sheets are not working on my computer right now and it was hard to find good info on google about the needs,so what is the basic care for one?
this is what i found out so far-add in some info that i don’t know
they eat rodents(rats,mice pinkies,etc), eggs,meat.
substrate is 50/50 of sand and organtic potting soil.make it deep.humidity should be medium to high.could i just use a 50/50 of sand and bedabeast(ecoearth)?
water should obviously be able for it to fit in.
put in fake plants and logs, climbing places, etc.
i know it will eventually need a large cage, but how big of a cage should a hatchling about 3 in. need? are rubbermaids better than glass tanks? should i just get a very big rubbermaid instead of a large glass one when it’s adult?
should i have a 10.0 or 5.0 uvb light?
i have a digital thermometer and the room’s humidity is constantly high(70-90%),but i do have a humidity gauge.
the basking/hot spot of the cage should be around 88 degrees, what should the cool side be? 75 degrees?

I suggest you do a lot more reading before getting a gold tegu.

There’s plenty of info to give you a decent idea on their care, your basking spot temps are way off from what you have gathered already. Try bumping that number up 12-25 degrees. Plus you’re pretty young so you probably want something you can "handle" on a regular basis in which any variant of teguixin (<--gold and colombian tegus) would not be a good choice for. Feeding can be expensive, as can caging etc. which really wont be priority if you dont really care about the lizard (which in most cases an "aggressive" lizard wont be high on the list of things to take care of) If you really want to get one well I cant stop you just be aware that even with a lot of time ,patience and persistance in the end you’ll still have a somewhat nervous animal that can be a bit unpredictable at times.

i never said those were the basking temps.the basking temps should be about 115-120 degrees. some sites said the cooler temps should be at 75-80 and 85-95 at the warm side.are those the wrong temps?
every care sheet i look up is exactly the same as all the others.they just copy off of each other.maybe 1 or 2 are different but i don’t get very specific info like what type of uvb or the gallonage for a cage for a 5 inch tegu. i’m thinking a 5.0 right now and a 20-30 gallon cage.you probably saw i have some experience with lots of reptiles.and i am aware of how big and agressive they can be. who said an agressive lizard wouldn’t be high on the things to take care of? i have a vicious and very unpredictable coachwhip snake that i take good care of and agressive snappers that i try to make their cage the best of for them. i’m just looking for some awnsers i couldn’t find.

gottee guy dont take any notice of bad replys we all have to start somewhere, but just get as much info as you can, spend hours and hours and hours on the internet doing research. Iv only had my tegu about a year hes a red. But i would say stay away from golden/colombian tegus. stick to blue, red and b/w. Iv kept reptiles for many years, get your basics right and you should be ok, ie light, temps, humidity and feeding

i got a columbian yesterday(the only kind they have in this city),a female, the most active one. i have been taking her outside for uvb a few hours each day but i will get a uvb light for her. does she have to adapt to her new environment and then start eating? she only ate a tiny bit of proscutto yesterday and today i tried hard-boiled egg. she won’t touch crickets or superworms yet and only, as far as i know, sniffed the hard-boiled egg.

You should just leave it alone for a week or so and let it get settled. It should start eating in a few days.
