I’m interested in buying a Argentine Black and White Tegu and I’m curious about its feeding. How do you calculate the size of a mouse pinky fuzzy or hopper ect ect to feed? My aussie water dragon and bearded dragon used the size between their eyes for prey. My ball python you use the size of the widest part of the body. How much and how often do they need to be fed? I’ve found the different varieties of foods and prey but are they prone to obesity if they keep getting offered food? Thanks, I’m trying to get all my facts and research straight before I set up the terrarium and then later buy him.

Arg B/W Tegu feeding?
Good thing you re doing your research. I feed mine about once every 2 days but not so much anymore since hibernation is coming. Basically they will try to eat anything you offer that they can eat. They will tear it up if they must but that isnt really good. Dont offer anything they cant swallow whole. I sometimes will feed out multiple mice over once bigger rat. A plate of smaller stuff is prolly safer then one large item that would take them 5 minutes to swallow. Just offer them as much as they will eat in about 10 minutes. They tend to be done after about 5 though....babies should be fed daily and as they get a bit bigger, maybe every other day or 3 times a week.
