 Ive been posting alot, now i need real help!

my tegu that i got on 2/28/09 at the hamburg reptile show has a very weird habit that he does. he will open his mouth and leave his tongue hangout and then he will drag his face along the ground from side to side, he will do it for maybe 20-30 seconds and then stop and then a few hours later he will start again and it goes on all day. i am not sure why he does it. i checked the inside of his mouth for anything that looked bloody or irritated and i found nothing. it doesn’t seem to effect his habits though, he is very active almost always walking around, he eats like a maniac and drinks plenty of water, he also defecates atleast once a day and sometimes 3-4 times a day. haha. in having him for about 5 days he has already grown almost half an inch. i was just wondering if it is anything i should worry about. i will post some pics and sorry for the long post.

That tegu is insanely skinny. Rubbing of the mouth might be an indication of MBD. Soft jaw thats causing irritation to the mouth.

he really isn’t that skinny at all. the mouth thing seems to have been atleast alittle less common. he defecates at least once a day sometimes even up to 4 times a day. and i have only had him for 9 days and already he has grown over an inch. haha thanks for the responses

Just thought I would mention the possibilities. Seems like most reptiles at the shows are a little skinny due to wholesale production. But with proper feeding, it’ll fatten up.

Only thing I would suggest is to make sure you get the best UVB bulb possible. Go with MVB like a Megaray or powersun.

Actually I just picked up my first Colombian tegu this weekend at the reptile show. Mines a little skinny but it’ll fatten up as well.

I had a long tailed grass lizard that dies from this sort of thing. I’m not really sure what it was, but I think something got stuck in his gums, a sharp bit of the substrate and he couldn’t eat anymore. Is he eating regularly?

check his eyes as best you can it could be an irritaion there or it could have been a bad shed that is irritating him. Have you checked his teeth for breaks or items stuck between them? Also it looks like you got a gold not a black and white

it could be hes having trouble breathing are you sure that the heat isnt to hot or cold you should take him to the vet to get it checked out its better to be safe than sorry
my dad lost his black and white tegu to something like this but he was a rescued tegu u should take him to the vet just in case you never no as i said its better to be safe than sorry check the heat to make sure its not to cold or hot as this causes effects like whats happerning he might be having trouble breathing

Take a fecal sample in .... Never seen a tegu pass so much waste product, might have a parasite issue.
Columbians are commonly known as either blk and why or golds... same thing all the same species.
