 Tegu

i’ve always liked tegus and have wanted to get one for a while. i have a 2’ Savannah monitor now, and want to add another reptile.

i found a tegu at a local place that is a small colombian tegu. maybe 7-8inches right now. they said there is something wrong with his front leg. its not as strong as the rest of his legs. is this something that will permanently affect him, or something he will gain strength with, then be able to use normally.

 Tegu

Without knowing the cause of the injury it is hard to tell. If could be the start if MBD (metabolic bone disease) from improper uv & calcium, or it could have been dropped and the limb is broken, or any number of other things could be wrong.

If you’re looking to get a tegu, I would wait to pick up one from a breeder. As well, colombians tend to be much harder to tame while the argentine’s are quite docile. I would not risk getting an already sick/injured animal from a pet store.
