 Tegu tail feel off

I grabbed my tegus tail and it fell off. Will it grow back? Does it hurt him? How long will it take 2 grow back

it will grow back it will just look a little funny, its a defense mechanism for it break off if a predator were to grab it. he should be fine thou just got to be more careful.lol
