Uncover a Burrow? My tegu loves to burrow and I like to spend time with him but he never comes out for maybe once during the day and then once during the middle of the night. I was reading and it says never to uncover his burrow; however, then it defeats the idea of me trying to spend time with him if I do. What should I do?

Uncover a Burrow? When you dig up your tegu while he is sleeping if often statles them and slows the taming process down a lot. you need to take him out when you see tha the is awake.

Uncover a Burrow? Pulling him from a burrow takes away his sense of security, so, no, I wouldnt do it too often. But not handling him as much as you possibly can can result in you having a more aggressive Tegu. What do his feeding habbits look like? He has got to come out a little more often than that, right? I would take advantage of every opportunity to handle. What kind of Tegu are we talking about anyway? Arg. or Col.

Uncover a Burrow? He is a Colombian. He actually really never comes out often. He comes out once so far that I know of during the day which is not great because I work and then once maybe in the middle of the night somewhere. He has no problem eating. I give him a pinkie every day with some lettuce and giant worm, if not worms then ground turkey with the vitamin powder. Fruits is a once in a while.. I have not had him for long so have not been able to try too much just yet but getting there.

Uncover a Burrow? I hear you but hes got be out then while you feed him, right? Perfect opportunity!! lol Colombians tend to be aggressive, more aggressive than the Argies in most cases, so he is going to need some work. Honestly, every opportunity. Once he is out, there are some tricks people know of to get him to calm down and warm up a little faster to you then by just leaving him in your hand, but for now its most important to get him handled as much as possible. If you feel he is still not coming above the substrate enough you may have to force him out. By that, I do NOT mean digging him out directly. I mean making positive disruptions in his tank that would force him out to see what your hands are doing in his home. Be a little rougher when you change the water, dig it into the substrate a little, ya know. Move the tank furnishings and bowls around so he (under his burrow) can feel you in there. Most likely, he will be curious and come out to see whats going on in his house...
What kind of substrate are you using anyway???

Uncover a Burrow? Cypress Mulch is a win-win my man. Great for burrows, even better for humidity, and easy enough for you to clean. Plus, with the advice I gave you, the cypress mulch is thick enough for him to feel those disturbances I was talking about. Any luck with that by the wayy???

Uncover a Burrow? No I have not had much luck at at all actually. I think I have a thick headed one at that. I am hoping to see improvement soon because if not then I dont think its going to be worth keeping him.
