 Why is everyone hateing on amevias

after skimming thru the fourms iv noticed a few posts of people saying dnt get an amevia why not get one this is a very beautiful reptile that is great they dnt get to big and are very active i have 2 green amevias that will eat outa your hand and i can pick them up i had a columbian tegu befor and he was very aggressive so plez stop hateing on amevias they are a great sub species of the tegu and can be tame if you just take the time with them

Thats becuz Argentine Tegu’s are the ones everyone is after. Its the Argento’s that get tame enough to enjoy each others company

same with amevias i can hold them after a while they become very tame even columbians become tame with in time i find that amevias are very active while in their enclosures and love to run and play i can even get them to follow my finger on the glass i just wish people would stop saying dnt get an amevia they are a great reptile

I used to try and catch amevias in the Bahamas. They were way too smart and too fast. The young had blue tails, gold brown heads with the back looking like a 3 lined skink. As they mature the heads become silver blue and the stripes fade a bit and the get to about 20 or more inches..... longer than my BTS.

They certainly will eat out of your hands, but I consider them a look but dont touch group of lizards.
By nature they are very nervous and flightly and one that "allows" itself to be "held" would make me concerned for the health of the animal because that is something they generally should not put up with.
And they arent subspecies of tegus, but they are in the same family Teiidae along with the tegus ,racerunner and whiptails.
I would consider them more "cousins" of each other
