 Growth rate and age question.

I have a couple of questions I haven’t found answers to. The first is about growth rate. I have owned my Red, Bambi, for a month or a little more. What growth rate have you all experienced. Bambi seems to look as though she grows every day noticeably. When I got her/him she was a little over 16" and likely closer to 18". She is at least 20" now even though she is a picky eater.

The second question is about age/growth. At what age do they stop growing and can be recognized as an adult?

Thanks once again for your help!
Dana

 Growth rate and age question.

Hi,
Tegus are so hard to predict when it comes to growth. I fed my tegu a daily feeding schedule for his first year as I was advised. I got him at a month old and he was 10" and by 12 months he was over 42" in length and sexually mature ( visible sperm plugs). I had a female that was about 2 months older then my male and they were about the same size when I got her and she hibernated so they were both about 16" at the same time and when she woke up from hibernation she was a little less then 17" and he was 36"! Needless to say I had to separate them and later re home her due to his aggression when he picked up her scent. It is crazy how fast they can grow, I thought I had a monster that had to be the fastest growing tegu ever to grow but it really isn’t that uncommon.
As for age/growth, it is said that they will continue to grow for up to 5 years but the rate slows considerably once maturity is reached. If you have a male then they look more like the adults when they form the jowels and they are less lanky and more bulky through the midsection.
