Argentine Black and White and Red Tegus can achieve over 4 feet in length and 15-20 pounds. Blues average 3 t0 3.5 feet and 5-10 pounds.

I have an argentine B&W tegu. I used to have a few more but i sold them. I would say if you going for a smaller tegu go for the chilean dwarf tegu but if you want a bad looking lizard go for the argentine b&w.I have a baby right now and its pretty sggresive so i have to calm it down but i certainly do love the argentines there my favorite. And if you want one in between go for the blue. In my experience the argentine B&W ar the most rewarding and easy. The reds were the hardest kinds for me. Hope that helps.later:)-

For an adult blue the minimum size is 6’ by 3’ by 2’ (LWH). If you have any questions about blue tegus, go to bluetegu.com and e-mail them, they are nice people and like to help.

A Chilean dwarf Tegu is not a true Tegu. They are very fast and expert escape artist. Not really a beefy, pet type of lizard. An adult Blue could be housed in a 4x3x4H enclosure if you make it 2 levels. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

do u think it could b 2’ wide instead? Actually ignore that question. I’m getting a baby anyways so in 2 or 3 (4 months at MOST) I’ll build another cage that will be really big, like 8’ x 4’ x 4’ with 2 levels. Is that okay or should it be bigger?

if you are building an 8’ by 4’ (LW) cage then two stories is completely unnessecary, and that cage probably wouldn’t fit in the door. that cage will be a perfect size for any BW, red, or Blue tegu. What kind of tegu are you going to get?

it isn’t needed with a cage that size. With the height higher than 2 feet though it will be almost IMPOSSIBLE to get it through a standard size door. And if you do get a tegu I highly recomend getting one from either:
bluetegu.com
or
agamainternational.com

those are the two tegu "pioneers" agama international has some of the finest tegus anywhere and the variety at bluetegu.com is hard to beat.

o ok cool. actually, I’m kinda changing around my room and like puting my bed like 5’ high on the wall lol kinda like a bunk bed but with no botom bunk. So I’m going to build a HUGE 8’ x 4’ x 2’ viv for a tegu. How small is the smallest (baby or juvi, w/e) blue at either of those sites? I’ll hafta go check em out!

agamainternational doesn’t sell blues, only argentine BW’s. BLuetegu.com is sold out of blues until september. Ben Siegal/Siegel (forget the site) usually has some blues, also does lllreptile.com. When you are building the cage, make sure it is with 3/4" plywood or thicker, or else the cage will be unstable. Also when you get your tegu, you will need to slowly adjust him to such a large cage, by putting barriers as he/she grows.
