Hey everybody! I just thought i would put a couple pics of my Egyptian toad up. here they are

and here is a pic of her in her cage

You should get rid of the chips, its soo rough on their skin, and they eat it so easily (i had it on my first tank). Get bed-a-beast, or something else, its in almost all pet stores. You should also get some fake plants and fill the tank out so she has a lot of cover. Shes cute though!

What a cute toad!! Where did you get her? I’ve never seen an Egyptian toad before.

Is that log thing she is on a hide?
If it isn’t, then you might want to get her one.

Those chips aren’t the best substrate. Go to the pet store and look for a brick of dirt. There are a few brands but a pretty popular one is bed a beast. Once you get it wet you get about 5x more dirt than what the brick looks like. Your toad will love digging in it and it holds moisture well . ;D

i got her in our local pet store. yes that is a hide. i have been told that the chips aren’t good for her. i want to get here different bedding. but i keep forgetting. people have been telling me to use peat moss in the tank. and, do i really need fake plants? is it really necessary to have fake plants?

Well, you don’t HAVE to have plants, but they are nice to have because they add natural cover, make the tank more natural, and help bump up humidity. A good one to start with is pothos because it is hardy.

No you don’t have to have plants at all. I don’t keep any plants with my toads because they really don’t care for them. They would rather have digging and jumping room. As long as you have a hide and keep the tank moist, there is nothing to worry about. Don’t worry about moisture, just mist her tank once a day and once a week pour some water on the soil to make sure it is always moist all the way to the bottom of the tank.

Anyways, unless you have a large tank I wouldn’t even recommend plants. They just take up room. Your tank isn’t the largest tank so I wouldn’t recommend them. I would suggest a larger water dish rather than plants.

As for peat moss, I don’t recommend it for most toads. Peat moss is much better for frogs. Toads like to burrow and dig and peat moss just isn’t ideal for digging but it does hold moisture well, which might be why you keep getting it recommended to you.

Plants and peat moss are more suited for fire belly toads, not burrowing toads.
