I need big time help, im a first time owner

Okay, so we found a toad, and we are allowed to keep it. My only problem is, is that i have no clue how to care for it. I’ve been looking up info but thats about it.

Heres what I have so far:

an itty bitty toad thats smaller then a quarter

a tank, that isn’t very big (it was a cheap one we got when we had fish, it even has a light on top)

blue rocks about the size of quarters

water covering almost everything (the rocks are levitated to where the one side is out of water)

and a flat-ish rock leaned against the wall of the tank for a hiding spot

My questions include:

what do i feed it? (there are no pet stores around here)

how often do i feed it?

is the way i have it set up okay?

Is there anything i need to change or get?

Above anything else I basicly need any and all pointers you can get.

HELP!

First of all you need to get atleast a 10 gallon becasue the toad will probably get bigger, give it more land than water, for water just use a water dish, substrate you can use organinc potting soil, be a beast, or andy other amphibian safe substrate, you can also cover that in moss (my toads love moss). for food you can just feed it pinhead crickets from the petstore, and when it grows bigger you can start to buy bigger crickets. Dust the crickets in calcium powder made for reptiles and amphibians. Please tell me where you live and describe the toad better, then I can identify it. If you can post pictures, please do.

Are you sure it’s a toad? The stup you describe is ok for a frog, but toads live on land. They enjoy sitting in a shallow mud puddle (or clean water dish; for something that small use a shalow plastic lid instead of an actual pet dish) but they don’t usually like swimming.
Instead of a ten gallon, I’d say just buy a clear plastic storage tub for about five doillars. It’ll have more floor space than a tank the same length does.
Your best pet-shop food is pinhead crickets. Most people with anurans that small give them flightless fruit flies, but you’d have to send away for those. The baby crickets, you can go out and buy right now, so since a baby should eat every day that’s the way to go.

ya its a toad, I dont live anywhere near a body of water. I live in ohio.

the toad ((who i’ve named Zipporah)) is quiet small, she’s light brown in color. She has darker areas that suround her "warts". I think she’s either an american or a fowler

I know the tank is small, but there are no pet stores any where around me, the closest one is about an hour to an hour and a half away. The top of the tank has two holes about[________] size but slightly taller, at the top so most flying/jumping insects are a no no.

My parents where kind of against us having it in the first place so they won’t go out and get bigger a tank or buy food. They just roll there eyes if i mention it...

Release her. Keeping her in such a tank will only result in death.
By the time she is baseball sized, she won’t be able to move in such a small tank. If a pet store is not near you, and unless you start breeding insects, you won’t be able to provide enough healthy food for her. She needs a main diet of crickets or roaches.

Your tank should be at minimum:
10 gallons.
Coconut fiber/soil substrate.
1 hide.
1 water dish.
1 light.

This is my tank, it matches all of the above but it is 20 gallons, not 10.

do you know if turtle food would work to feed it?? i live out in the country so finding bugs isnt necessarily a problem, but its difficult catching them.

No, turtle feed is not safe for a toad. Wild bugs are not safe either. They carry parasites, and are not properly fed. You can never be sure of what a wild bug has eaten, things that could possibly kill your toad.
