Toads Help Center I am having some trouble understanding Fire Belly Toad feeding. If I have 2 1in FBTs I would put 10 crix every day, or every other day? And also, what do I use for substrate?
-Ryan
P.S. Thank you for doing this post, I am what you consider, A Newbie.

Toads Help Center Your very welcome and I would not waist that many crickets and 2 1 inch toads they only eat like 1-2 crickets every other day each toad so that’s like 2-4 crickets every other day so don’t put that many in because they might just die all at once and what a waist of money.....also i go to petco and buy 58cents of crickets every couple days and i dump the whole bag in of them and they are gone in less than 2 days it seems gross but i love my toads more than my crickets so really only 2-4 crickets for you and if you have toads that are less than an inch feed them flightless fruit flies, they might be more money but you don’t want to feed toads food that is bigger than them! Your welcome again and thanks for asking me!

Toads Help Center So, cool! I will feed them 5 crix every other day. Money isn’t a problem because I breed them. I breed crickets, mealworms, and silkworms. Can I feed them silkies? And waxies? Because If I can I will start breeding those too. Also I didn;t see that you answered my question about the substrate. What kind of substrate should I use for my land area and then my water area?

Toads Help Center I think you can feed them waxies but they have to be smaller than the toads and I’m not sure about silk worms. You can ask Petco asscoites about the silk worms. I am not sure about that I would waituntil some1 else posts your anwser n this topic or on another one and report it back to here and let me know what you are using please keep me updated and i did research for you and here is a website on info for your fire-bellied toads Fire-bellied toads

Toads Help Center They do like waxworms, but waxworms aren’t really that good for...anything. Silkworms, however, are excellant.

Toads Help Center Well, I did it! I got them today! They are in a 10gal tank, with some cool plants, some large river roks for the water, and eco earth! They have nice big hide. I have a unlimited supply of baby crix and some fruit flies for them. Also I have silkies. So far so good. I used some alluminum foil to sepaate the water and land, and that is working pretty good so far. You cant see the foil, I covered it up with some large garden roks. I used some hermit crab water declorinator for the water, and it looks good!

Toads Help Center Okay cool! Well, the toads are eating great. That is definetly not a problem with them. The one thing that is concerning me is that, they are not very active. They sit in the same spot for a long time, and occasionally move. Is this normal? Usually when they sit around it is in the water. So far I have just been feeding them crix and they are doing well. So I will keep everyone posted trough their first few weeks with me. I am sure I will be full of questions. And thank you for all of the help.

Toads Help Center They’re mostly nocturnal, so they’re probably moving around when you can’t see them. What’s you photoperiod? I give everuything a day/night cycle, but I do like to cheat a little. I usually give diurnal animals 14-16 hours, depending on how long a summer thye’d get in the wild (the more tropical they are, the less seasonal variation there’d be) and I give nocturnal ones 14-16 hours with no overhead light. For instance, my toad light only runs from noon until eight PM, so her period of activity extends into the morning, when I can actually see her.

Toads Help Center Well, i tied out the fruit flies. The toads absolutely love them. Now I have a questionn again. Do they have long tongues? Because they sit there and eat them from like an inch away.

Toads Help Center A couple of things, FBTs do not have tongues and they require no extra heating. If you want to give them a light, give them a fluorescent light. The light would create too much heat for them and they dry out too easily.

Toads Help Center As long as there’s a cycle, they should be fine. Ambient window lighting is fine.

I have tiny lil toads. What can I feed them now that they are no longer tads? We put some ants in the tank last night and they ate them pretty fast. They are way to small for crickets or flys. Will they eat raw meat or something? please help! My little boy has been watching these guys grow for months! Thanks so much!

Toads Help Center If they can eat ants, they can eat fruit flies. There are even wingless fruit flies that can be ordered by mail, which are what most people with frogs or toads that small use. Raw meat isn’t a suitable substitute. The need the organs and everything for it to be a balanced meal.
