Hi!

I’m thinking about getting a toad but I’m concerned about long-term care. I occasionally have to go on weekend business trips (thurs-sun). I’ve read that a toads water needs to be changed every day. Is it safe to leave a toad for the weekend or will I have to find someone to change the water? I know I can give it extra food and it’ll fine but I don’t want my future pet to get sick because of dirty water.

Also where are good places to get toads? I’ve been searching online and can’t find a lot places that sell toads, I don’t want to decide on what type to get until I’ve seen all my options. I don’t have any pet stores in my area besides petco & pets mart and I’ve heard bad things about their reptile health.

Do you have any local petstores? I have 10 Fire Bellied Toads from Petsmart, and when to deal with the water changes I have filters running in my tank so you can always do that. I have 1/2 water and 1/2 land. Then I can do 1/2 water changes every few weeks!

petsmart is ok, I got toads from there. You chould change a toads water every day, but if on vacation it is ok to leave it for a couple days, I leave town every now and then and my toads are fine. If you leave town for more than 3 days, I would ge someone. What kind of toads do you want? if you want fire bellied toads, you can get those anywhere, if you want toads that belong to the bufo species I would contact a local breeder. If you want to buy healthy toads (which you probably do) I would contact a breeder aswell.
