 Weird behaviour

Hi I work at a pet store and I am supposed to be the reptile guy but we recently ordered in fire bellied toads and although i know the basic care and setup for them, I am not familiar with breeding habits. We have two housed together and recently one of them started burrowing itself in the eco-earth we supplied for them... i’m not sure if thats how they lay eggs or if it is something else. Any feedback helps.

Thank you,
Robb

They are in a 10 gallon tank, about half water half land. There are vines with leaves on them (fake ones from Flukers) They pretty much coil around the entire half where its only Eco-earth. THe burrowing i do not believe to be hiding because (s)he has only dug about an inch down and is curled up, to me it looks almost like hibernation, but we keep the lights on over night and the tank stays at around 80-83. The other male just sits in the water all day, both are eating maybe 3-4 crickets a day.

do they have a little shelter in there?or lots of plants to hide under? also borrowing is no big deal might just be trying to cool down some. temps are a little high should be mid to upper 70. do you leave a light on 24-7 that will diffently stress them out plus they need a little temp drop at night. if gets to cold in your area try using a under tank heater to keep temp up. does your water have a filter? if not the water needs changed evry other day min. some pics would help to figure some stuff out.

You guys keep the lights on everyday all day?! Do you live in bright light 24 hours a day too? No wonder she’s trying to dig herself a hole. She’s trying to get out of the light. No light is needed unless there are live plants in there and even then it should be fluorescent with 12 hours on 12 hours off just like fish. And if the fish don’t get it either, then I think I just solved every fish stores problem with constant illness in their fish. They need a hide to get away from the lights otherwise sickness and illness are in their future. Water needs a complete change everyday if there is no underwater filter. I applaud your coming here to try to better their life and do suggest you change around what we have suggested. If the manager says no or refuses then it is best not to carry them for the sake of the FBTs.
