What kind of Toad is this??? I live in Tucson and this is my second summer in this house. All of the sudden I went out to my backyard a few weeks ago and found toads hopping around. I think this is a Great Plains Toad but I need to be sure. I have a dog who is outside a lot. My dog is difficult to train as she is deaf. I know Sonora Desert Toads are poisonous so any help would be great. I honestly am not a toad kinda person and I would like to relocate them especially because of my dog and 3 year old daughter. My daughter loves animals and would like nothing better than to catch the toads. She has already tried. I don’t have any standing water in my backyard like a pool either. like I said they just appeared one night.

What kind of Toad is this??? Yes that is a Great Plains Toads. Pretty much all toads and amphbians produce toxins, so it could possibly make your dog sick. There’s a good chance your dog will grab one and spit it back out due to bad taste, and never touch one again. There’s also a chance she might just wolf it down.
Relocating is dangerous though. If it’s an infestation I would call animal control and allow the authorities deal with the matter. If it’s just a few toads then I wouldn’t worry too much. They are nocturnal and during the day they will typically burry themselves and hide. Relocating an animal to a different area can cause stress on that ecosystem if the animals carry disease or sickness that is new to that location.

What kind of Toad is this??? They do have a white milky discharge, that can be harmnful if ingested. however they are only really active during a few weeks out of the year. So I imagine they will leave in a few weeks and you can expect them back same time next year. On a positive note, they eat alot of bugs! and poisonous bugs. So If you are growing veggies it would be a good idea to keep them around!
