 Newbie - quick housing question

I set up a 29g tank with half terrarium setting and half water setting. I added 1 Long-tailed Lizard and 3 Firebelly Toads. I have since some to the understanding that they should not be housed together, after the pet store told me they would be fine (since they both come from Asia, have need of higher humidity levels, spend time in different parts of tank, etc.). As I have no money or space for another tank, I am wondering if it work to add a tank divider to separate the two sides. The lizard never goes to the side with the water and the toads so far have stayed in just the water side. I am thinking this would work, but I want to make sure.
Thank you for reading and any advice you can give.

(I also posted this in the grass lizard forum to get the best possible advice. I hope that isn’t a problem.)

Asia is a rather large continent with at least two different biomes... You can tell the pet store that.

If you can scrounge up the cash check craigslist for people selling aquariums for cheap. The FBT’s put out a hefty amout of toxins through their skin excreations and it’ll poision that lizard. What kind of long-tailed lizard is it? There are lots of them from all over the world... Likewise the lizard has parasites and other things that might not bother it, but the FBTs aren’t adapted for.

You can do a tank divider with silicone and a piece of glass, though both are adept at climbing so you’d have to make sure it goes all the way up. A better solution is to take the lizard out of the tank. A 50/50 setup is good for FBTs but the lizard is probably a brush or grasslands critter depending on what it is. You can house the lizard in a large rubber maid container from Walmart. Get some screen or mesh fabric, cut a hole in the lid and glue or solder it on the top. A quick easy quarantine tank. Most lizards require UVB radiation bulbs to process calcium though, which aren’t cheap. Personally I would print off a care sheet on the lizard from a reputable source, take the lizard back to the store and demand your $$ back. Best wishes.

It is the Long-tailed Grass lizard. He is very cute and pretty - white stripes down his back/sides. I may have to do a 10g set-up for him if I can figure out where to put it.
Thank you for the advice!

Ask the lizard people, but I think that a 20 long would be the minimum size you’d want to have a lizard like that in. Also double check on it’s lighting needs with them. Most need the UVB to maintain healthy bones. MBD is tough to fight in thin lizards once it starts.

I have a uv light on him now. I’ll look for a larger tank, also.
Thanks!

Sounds good. BTW, the fbt’s do not need UVB lighting, so don’t waste an expensive bulb on them. The life of a UVB bulb is only 6-10 months, the light lasts much longer of course, but the coating that produces the UVB rays runs out. Just a heads up. Make sure you’re using a calcium supplement to dust the food of both animals too.
