Help i.d and tank help hi. my names derek and i have a few questions pretaining to a toad i jus found in my back yard. i saved it from becoming a stray cats meal. man i hate those strays, they get into everything. now from what i know im pretty sure its either american or fowlers. ive done tons of research but i figured ide come on the forum that has experts, that could really tell me. ive had reptile and amphibians for years but do to financial reasons had to ease up a bit. now that i have a stable job once again i figured ide get back into the herp thing. ive had tons of frogs and toads but his would be the first wild toad. although it doesnt seem to be too wild as it hasnt peed or secreted or even tried to escape from me. yet. but i would love to get help on the temps and and soil and stuff like that. i know hes/she isnt fully aquatic but doesn need a bowl for water so i got a cassarole dish filled it with declorinated water and put it in there and he/she seems to enjoy it at night. i know there nocturnal and eat crickets works, beetles and some slugs but the leaoprd slugs round my house seem entirely too big for it. i went to the store and bought two dozen crix for him/her. i fed him as many as he could do in 15 min. he ate 8 of them and was done. i fed him out side his new habitat. but i do plan on breeding crix for him/her. ive done that before with my beardies, and baby corns so not much difficulty there, but any help is good help so any opinions on that would be great as well. i got a pic of his basic set-up for now when i get paid i plan on getting some bed-a-beast bricks for him/her. you know the kind that become lots of bedding lol. and i also plan on getting some fake plants to make him/her feel more secure. i have a heat mat set on low for him because my room is kinda chilly at night but during the day i turn it off cause it gets warm then. its only on one side and it barely heats jus enough to warm i spose but he seems to love it. also a thermometer and humidity checker dont know what those are called though. i guess im done for now. and if you actually read all of this thank you very much and you will be a big help to me. alo i put some pics up to show u the toad and his new home. and i have read the care sheets and would jus like some further imput and help thanks have a great day

Help i.d and tank help My family found one of these near Palm Springs when I was a kid and kept it for years successfully. I’m afraid all I can say is that it loved burrowing in the dirt and didn’t seem to require any sort of extra heating/lighting. Good luck with your fellow!
Also, we had no idea what type of toad it was, and still don’t. He was just Our Toad.

Help i.d and tank help Check the big dark spots on its back. A Fowler’s will have at least 3 warts within the same border.
Your setup sounds pretty good. I’d go for more floor space since it’s a wild animal (get a bigass clear storage tub for 5-10 dollars) but overall you’ve got the right idea. Diet sounds fine too. If the toad wasn’t taking to it, I’d say cut your losses and let it go, but it sounds like you’ve managed the acclimation without any real stress.
