FBT & Cannibalism I seem to be missing 2 of my fire-belly toads. I had 3 & last saw all of them on Fri. when I cleaned their tank. I have looked under every little hidey-hole in the tank & cannot find them. I’ve even broadened my search to the house but still no luck. I can’t even imagine how they could’ve got out of the tank since it’s pretty sealed. Could the one have eaten the others? I bought them at the same time & they are all the same size. At any rate, it’s very disturbing. Thanks!

FBT & Cannibalism Probably escaped or stuck in the filter. They can eat each other if there is a big enough size difference. Otherwise the worst that could happen is a lost limb.

FBT & Cannibalism Thanks. That makes me feel better. . .I think. Still no sign of them but my cat was doing some major projectile vomiting yesterday so maybe she got to them as they were hopping around. I renamed the one "Hannibal" just in case, tho.

FBT & Cannibalism FBT’s have a lot of toxins in their skin. I would watch your cat carefully. It can make them pretty sick, sometimes with a mild case of death.

FBT & Cannibalism A mild case of death? xDD That makes so much sense.
I used to own FBTs and I remember when I touched them and then rubbed my nose. It burned for like, an hour.
I wouldn’t be too worried about your cat dying if it got ahold of them. I’d say you’d only die if you ate like, a bunch of them or if you were allergic.

FBT & Cannibalism I wondered what a mild case of death would be like. My cat seems fine so I’m not too worried about any case of death by toad. Hannibal now has a tank-mate, Clarisse. So far, all is well. I plugged up a couple of questionable spots where escape might be possible. They’re cute little guys. Very active. They move more in an hour than my WTF does all day.
