Help!! What’s Wrong with my FBT?

Hi...I’m new to this forum but I’ve had my fbt for 4 years. Lately he’s lost weight and his skin is darker (not due to shedding). He lunges for crickets and always misses and when I try to give it waxworms it keeps lunging towards it to eat it but it always misses (like 20 times!!). He eats about one worm a week because he can’t catch crickets...he used to eat every other day...What’s wrong with my fbt??? Help!!!

yeah, i’ve dangled it in front of its face, but that doesn’t seem to help either. I know I’ve had the toad for a while, but I got it when it was smaller...don’t fbt’s live between 10-15years? Could my fbt be sick or is it just old? Thanks

you should try taking it to a vet or the store you got it from. it sounds like he may be having sight problems.

have you tried putting your toad in a seperate container with the cricket so he’ll have better chances of catching it? i dunno, that might help.

lol i have to do that with my toads during the winter alot. my tree frog devours things though. sometimes i feed her right outta my hand and it takes 2 seconds not even.

yea its pretty kool. usually i have the cricket in one hand and salem (my treefrog) balancing on the finger of my other hand. then salem takes this wild leap and in one try totally devours the cricket! hehe! its so kool, or maybe im just a big nerd. lol.

hehe yea. o, i gotta question for you guys though. it just rained at my house, and theres alot of worms around. usually in the spring and summer when this happens i collect some juicy ones and feed em to my toads, but are worms safe to feed them in the winter? im always afraid that that will get them sick.

nope, no pesticides. lol, i always think its funny when 2 or more toads fight for a worm. its like one gets it in his mouth and the other tries the other end or the end that the other toad has. lol. they always have that expression of "mine! get away!"

lol do you ever call petstores to see if they have a certain reptile and amphibian and they have no idea what your talking about? everytime i call i ask if they have any toads and their reply is "what? huh? toast? toes? toes on what?" its only occasionally when "o yea, toads, lemme check"

OMG, I would love to work with frogs and other amphibians, I mean they’re so cute......I love my little FBTs and the worst part about wprking with amphibians is that if they’re hurt u have to kill them and I love frog and i dont wanna see them suffer but I dont think i could kill them, unless they were really hurt, ya know?
