A few hardy houseplants like Pothos, Sansevieria, etc, will help them feel at home; I have noticed that they sometimes like to hide among the roots of these plants... also some flat rocks make good hiding places for them. A good quality, full spectrum fluorescent lamp (on a timer, on during the day) is a good idea -- it helps the plants to grow and stimulates the toads’ activity. The substrate should be sandy, just barely moist (they live in grasslands, desert oases, etc.) and they need a shallow bowl of clean water to soak in and plenty of small pinhead crickets to eat. I am not sure if you meant American (Western) green toads -- there is also a European species (Bufo viridis) that is white or beige with greenish patches scattered over its body -- this one grows to a much larger size (3 to 4 inches, sometimes more) and needs a bigger terrarium, but its needs are somewhat similar. This one will eat large crickets. I hope my advice and suggestions have been helpful. |
