 Friends Firebelly Toad

My friend has a fbt and she was wondering if she can put another one in with it. We think its a male she calls him baby and he likes to jump places that she doesnt like like her shirt. She has him in a 20gal tank with a dock, half log,and rocks in it with water and a water filter to keep the water air rated. One of the problems is she ran out of crix one time and her dad gave him fish food till we could bring her some and now he is refusing the crix. Is there a floating toad or frog food for him that has protien in it? and she wants to get him a buddy so he is not lonely one of her questions on that is will he be agressive towards the other toad if it comes into his home? She is a new fbt owner we got him for her for her birthday. and she was also wondering if they need a heat lamp for the colder months? She has a uvb for it.

You can put more then one in that 20gal, they tend to like friends more then being alone. They are non-aggressive creatures and do really well with friends in the tank. I’d say one Fire Belly for every 5 gallons, but to be safe if it was me, I’d only put max of 3 in there. Does she have the tank fully aquatic? Their tanks should be half and half or 1/3 land, 2/3 water, You can do this by grabbing a few bags of aquarium gravel and make kinda like a slope up to the land, then get some coco-fiber and spread around the land area so they can’t ingest then gravel, or she could simply add bigger rocks about the size of a quarter over the small aquarium gravel. Then I like to add decor’ and hiding places on the land since they do like to be out of water time to time. Fish food is a no-no and all it does is make the water nasty and the Fire bellies have no interest in eating it as they tend to only like moving prey. Water should only be at most 4in deep or depending on her FTB’s size. When the FTB gets in the water, make sure they can touch there back lets on the bottom of the aquarium and let there nose stick out of the water a little to breath, this is important so they don’t drown or anything like that. When I had my 3 in a 20g I had a lot of rocks in the tank to provide as many hides, ledges and things to that nature I could. Think about there native habitat, or what you think there habitat should look like where they will enjoy it.

Hope this helps, Anymore questions please feel free to ask.
Cheers, Cody. Small Town Herp
