hi im new to this forum...not to the website though im in a few other sections..so heres a brief overview of me and my herps..im 15 years old and didnt get my first reptile until this november..right away i got hooked. my mm said i could get that once beardie and that was it well..it wasnt it lol. i currently have a female red/orange translucent beardie, a male white translucent beardie, a male chinese water dragon, a 4+ foot male green iguana, 2 poison dart frog vivs(a trio of dendrobates leucomelas, and a pair of vent. iquitos) and i jsut got 2 fire belly toads sunday. this friday im getting more fire bellys(i have a 50g breeder they are in its 36x18x18) so how many more can i get? and how can i make sure i get some females? i know the two i have now are males and are aleways both chirping. thanks

It will be difficult to sex FBTs but there are a number of things you can check and watch for. Females are generally larger than males of the same age and the skin on their backs is generally smoother.
Males are usually smaller than same age females, the skin on their backs is generally rougher, during the mating season males develop nuptial pads on the first and second fingers and males are the ones that sing/croak/bark/etc.
*Note the nuptial pads on males are often present outside of mating season but may be difficult to see.
Other then that, It will be really hard.. they are pretty tough to sex.

(I’d 4-6 In there, I think a 50gal Breeder Is wider and longer then a normal 50gal.. So 4-6 would be fine)

yeah its got a larger footprint its 36x18x18. regular 50g are 48x12 like a 55g. now if i just get a couple more random ones what are the chances id get a female? i dont want all males cuz i plan to breed

Probably a 1/2 chance if you get 2 more. I mean, It’s going to be hard to sex them while at the shop, unless they had more visible details to go off of. I’ll be breeding to, And the lady at the petshop didn’t have any Fire Bellies in today due to snow storms so I went ahead and pre-ordered and ask for 2 European (Brown) Fire Bellies, and 2 Oriental (Green) Fire Bellies, also told here about trying to order 1 male, and 3 female.. but they don’t always come out right.. Since they are hard to tell there sex until later on after having them for a little bit.

nicee ive just been getting kine at petsmart :p its closest and cheapest at the moment. 5.49 a piece. ill porb get like 4 more friday maybe 5. i like the bright breed ones right now ihave a bright green one and a darker more hunter green one. the brighter one is bigger and the likl one started calling first but they both started calling yesterday :p

0. I had many of them along with american toads, green tree frogs, salamanders.. everything but I had to move so I was forced to sale all my things or give them away to people. So now I’m starting off fresh again.. so I have 0 at the moment.
